Society Needs Listening, Learning, Knowing, and Acceptance!

I’m sitting in this Clubhouse room and many of us are upset about the proliferation of labels and the multitude of ways they are weaponized for straight violence against folks.  All kinds of folks.  

Well, I’m here to tell you that relying on labels ensures you avoid the true work of LISTENING, LEARNING, KNOWING, and ACCEPTING!  This work involves us speaking and engaging with each other from an embodied place of truth. 

Let me tell you why...

We are ALL definitely ignorant, and ignorance is not to be judged.  You can walk away or engage with ignorance - that’s about it.  I engage because I am here and poised for all the smoke; I know that is where the healing lies. 

​One thing you can know about me is that I am obsessed with authentic healing and growth.

If you are not like me, why engage without the intention to do the hard work to educate someone?

• Someone who already thinks they are knowledgeable about the situation? 
• Someone who is going to fight you with ignorance every step of the way?

• Someone who will fight until they have a breakthrough or you give up?  

​If you are not up for the drama - JUST WALK AWAY  - and go do some great work in another way, in another space.  #Periodt

As humans, we do not do the work to educate the masses and leave it up to every person to figure it the fuck out.  WTF are you expecting??? 

​For everyone to know what you know?  For everyone to come to the same conclusions that you do?  For everyone to listen and care when inevitably they are not on the same page as you?

And... we aren’t great at calling a thing a thing...we confuse emotions, opinions, and beliefs with universal truth.  We think we can achieve and harness universal truth and we cannot.
  
YOU CAN achieve personal truth; ONLY WHEN you have clarity and that continues to elude humanity - collectively and individually.  So why focus on universal truths about societal ills when they don’t exist? 

Why frame our conversations from this point of view?  Why assume that another’s experience of racism - or any form of socially-constructed marginalization - is like yours?  Why not listen, learn, know, and accept?

PEEP THIS...

Your truth matters because it is personal - it is not universal.
Your definitions matter because they are personal - they are not universal either. 
Your explanations matter because they are personal - these too are not universal.  
​
When we understand these three facts we can begin to work on healing to address these societal issues.  Yet, we got this all the way fucked up.  We think we know and we do not.

​Time to accept that we are students & don’t know what we are doing; and see what happens!

As separate communities, we keep trying to go back to some time when everyone was treated with equity.  #WhenSway - There has never been a time in recorded history.  Go ahead and check...I’ll wait. #FOH

It’s time to envision anew - with a collaborative understanding of people’s personal truths borne of personal definitions from the personal explanations we have received from each other with open minds, bodies, and spirits.

We are not open.
We are closed.

And what we are seeing in society is what closed looks like.

OKAY, AND???

Not listening, learning, knowing, and accepting personal truths from others is Toxic AF and we won’t get any closer to equity acting like that.  #StopBeingAshy

on your Current Self and learn to accept
the truth of your Future Self.
